Burning Candles Poem by Shawn Montgomery

Burning Candles

Rating: 4.5

The wick that burns
forever alone without
the flame that turns
and brings in the doubt

A relationship built of wax
slowly melting down,
a single flame made to relax
the stick without releasing sound

Everyone has a couple candles
for which people are labeled,
but truth in wick handles
the melting, candle cabled

For all the candles burn and melt,
until the relationship breaks and falls.
Some burn faster than the cards being dealt.
Some burn slower for a couple's hauls

But every person has one
candle that stays lit forever-ed,
whether you find them old or young
you will never find them severed
