But If Poem by Theresa Garces

But If

but
if we bridle our passions
and bundle our fears
will we continue
to be haunted
by a troubled past
or will the present
somehow
be sheltered
from the storm clouds
that hang permanently
in the sky
like a fixture
in this house
of mirrors
