But Then Poem by Kathryn Garner

But Then

did you feel it too?
because i swear i did
but with what you said
during departing
i supposed you didnt
just like the rocks don't feel
when the waves crash on them
i went about
looking everywhere but at you

but then
i crashed into you
well, at first only my heart did

but then
everything else
crashed into you as well
but you didnt feel it
you brushed me away
with your cold stone
of a heart
do you think
waves look at the rocks?
no
i dont think so
i believe they look at the sky
with a premonition of something better
then they meet stone cold
and think they met something
something
that could be behind appearance

but then
they are crushed
as a heart is crushed
coldly
yes, the most certainly
look to the sky
but meet nothing close
once they meet
the cold stones
they are crushed

but then
they go back out to sea
and look at the sky again

but then
the storyline repeats
just like the sky
repeats the endings and beginnings
they just meet the stones
again

but then
... but then nothing
