By His Grave Stone Poem by norman hale

By His Grave Stone

By His Grave Stone

By the grave stone
She stands there alone
As tears run down her cheek
She prays and she weeps

Her soldier boy for so long
But now God has called him home
She kneels and touches the stone
His love is in her heart alone

An Angel watches and cries too
For she has felt the same pain too
Cars pass by never paying mind
It could be any of theirs lost to find

She wipes her tears as another starts
One after another breaking her heart
He will be missed for years to come
Until that day we are gathered to go home

It will take year for her heart to mend
But it will hold his love and never forget him
He'll watch over her from up above
And tend to sing to her through a lonely dove

Her grave blanket is spread upon the ground
And she lays her head upon it weeping every sound
She lays there for hours whispering his name
To watch such pain is realy a shame

For a love so true so long is hard to find
It's the kind of love that is found by the blind
She may never love again, who's to say
Only time can ever tell, on the right day

So If you have a loved one so true to you
You better keep them close before time is through
Or they'll be gone before you know it too
And you'll know what it's like to be in her shoes
