Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars
cause i could really use a wish right now
can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars
cause i need a new way out somehow
so lets just forget all the pain
just go back to the days
when wishing on a star could pass as dreams
as all our hopes flew past on beating wings
and the sun could shine through all the times ahead
and there wouldnt be anything more that we would dread
living out our days without a care
never having to see the old life nightmare

and lets pretend that none of this ever ended
that we never met the problems we befriended
living on like we couldnt be stopped
like all our hopes and dreams had never been dropped
cause i need a final wish to help me through the days
something to help me make sense of today
i really need something to change

so lets pretend that like its all good
like its a happy ending out of an old fairytale book
lets pretend that i'll wake up and find that prince
like im sleeping beauty waiting for that special lil kiss
that i finally woke up and i've been happy since
now lets pretend that that prince hadnt gone away
left me alone in the story with my own pain
crying and dreaming for something different to change
flipping to the unhappy ending as he went his ways

so can we pretend that those airplanes up in the dark sky
could give me a simple little wish as they flew right by
cause all the stars are going out at night
they're all being used up now its not right
shining angels losing their glowing lights
wishes falling apart as they fade from sight

could we pretend that we dont need it
that we can go on without wishing on the stars
pretending we didnt need wishes to get this far
lets pretend i dont need the stars for all this
pretend i would look up at night and they wont be missed
but if that failed would it be enough
to make an airplane in the night sky into a wish
