Casting Shadows Poem by Andrew Daglish

Casting Shadows

Shadows cast by a beating sun
Elongate as the day grows long
They began so early with dawn’s first sight
But slowly fade in dusks last light.
Then a whole new shadow is reborn
This takes a slightly sinister form
It lurks on a stairwell or your bedroom wall
Contorted branches stripped by the oncoming fall
Bony fingers stretch far to touch
Your frozen shoulder that shakes so much
A pounding heart within your mouth
Shows little sign of heading south
Reality check, with one eye skinned
Phew!
It’s just bare twigs on an autumn wind
