Castlemaine In Winter Poem by Francis Duggan

Castlemaine In Winter

In the central Victoria Town of Castlemaine
The currawongs call in the wind and the rain
And this Countryside with lots and lots of rain could do
Much more than heavy showers for an hour or two.

In Castlemaine even in Winter there's not much rainfall
A dry and brown Countryside as i can recall
But when the currawongs sing on a calm Winter's day
One can almost feel sure that rain is on the way.

In Castlemaine in Summer the paddocks are bare
And moisture sucked from the ground by the warm humid air
The long and dry warm spells the farmers do fear
And rain it is welcome at anytime of the year.

On the trees in the Town Park the pied currawong
Are telling of rain in their familiar song
And darkening rain clouds are crossing the sky
And every dropp is quite welcome in a place that's so dry.
