Celebrate Poem by John Sydney Cartwright

Celebrate

Celebrate. Celebrate?
How best the way to celebrate?

Read and learn, self-educate,
Listen, look, elucidate;
Explore the world and cogitate,
Quest and find, illuminate.

Look up at the moons and stars;
Wonder if there's life on Mars.
Learn of empires, queens and kings,
Statues, art, and painted things.

Music, poems, passion, strife
Write a journal of your life
Investigate an ancient mystery
Follow faded strands of history.

Celebrate. Celebrate?
What is there to celebrate?

Jackson Pollock, Einstein, Marx;
Fractals, bosons, primes and quarks.
Wagner, Bach, and One Direction,
Artistic harmony and perfection.

Shakespeare's plays, films, T.V.,
Kipling, Housman, poetry,
Animals, flowers, mountains, lakes;
Chocolate biscuits, cheese, and cakes.

Medicine, light, electric power,
Heat and water: clean all hours;
World wide web and information
All worthwhile of celebration.

Celebrate. Celebrate?
Why should we all celebrate?

Cogito, et ergo sum:
I think, and so therefore I am.
I think I want to cerebrate
That is why I celebrate!
