Change Out Time Poem by Mike Farris Jr.

Change Out Time

CHANGE OUT TIME

Its change out time, give me new clothes
My socks are smelly
Got stains on my shirt
I need clean clothes to put in my tote
They’ll make me wait at least four hours
I’ve already waited a week
I need fresh clothes to put on my back
And clean socks so my feet won’t stink
Thirty grown men
In one big room
In nothing but their boxers
Standing around looking like fools
Hoping to be dressed soon
They pull us in three at a time
Give us our roll and tell us to change
Two a.m. finally got clean clothes
Guess I’ll stay awake till breakfast time
Only three hours away
