Chips Or Fries? Poem by Melissa Wagner

Chips Or Fries?

Fish and Chips.
Chips that aren't really chips.
Chips that are fries, and yet called chips.
What's the point,
of calling a fry a chip if a fry is a fry and a chip is a chip?
And yet they,
for some unknown reason,
call fries chips.
So if chips are really fries, than are fries really fries?
Or are fries chips?
And if chips are fries,
and fries are chips,
then is anything itself?
Or is everything something else?

Description: In Creative Writing class, we were told to write a poem about a potato chip, and this is what I came up with in the last ten minutes of class. P.S. To any French, please don't take offense. This is just a funny, lighthearted poem.

Try living here (France) where 'frites' are chips.... and 'chips' are actually crisps! Nice piece of writing though! The French are serious about their food, true enough, but believe me, they are quite willing to call a spade a spade (especially if it is English!) ... so no, I don't think my neighbours over here would take offense (even if they could read English!) .
