Christ Typify'D By The Brazen Serpent Poem by Rees Prichard

Christ Typify'D By The Brazen Serpent

Ye, who have felt the serpent's venom'd bite,
Coem all to Christ, the woman's promis'd seed,
He'll dress the sore, and pluck the sting out quite,
He'll bind him fast, and cause his head to bleed.

We all have felt sin's agonizing wound,
Its sting has to our hearts a passage found,
Christ only can a proper salve apply ;
On him, the brazen serpent, fix your eye.

Look up to Christ, who on the cross once hung,
(As they look'd up, who formerly were stung
By fiery serpents in Zin's pathless waste)
And all your pains will pass away in haste.

If with a contrite heart, and eye of faith,
We gaze at him, although the serpent hath,
With baneful bite, transpierc'd each sinner's heel;
Yet Christ, if look'd upon, the wound will heal:

But if we come not soon to Christ, our King,
To seek a cure against the serpent's sting:
No other leach a proper salve can give -
None, but the Son of God can make us live.
