Christmas Poems: Lost Gift ©

T'was days before Christmas and it didn't seem so,
Cheer and Goodwill, had flown out of the window;
Three precious gifts, were nowhere to be found,
tho' I searched and sought, and looked all around.

Faith was the first gift, without Faith, I'm lost,
Steadfast and constant, Peace is the cost;
I found it and smiled, promised never to part,
I now keep it close, tucked safe in my heart,

Hope was the next gift, I can't do without Hope!
How on earth would I manage? How would I cope?
I found it at last, on the edge of the sill,
Patient and waiting, Hope shone quietly still.

Love was the last gift, and most difficult to find,
I'm careless and careworn, with love on my mind;
Love strayed far away, sightless and hidden,
Away from my sight, concealed and forbidden.

I searched high and low, in favourite places,
but love seemed to have vanished, without any traces;
I sought love in corners, where love would abide,
but love seemed elusive, determined to hide.

I wept and I wailed, so wretched was I,
My broken heart aching, all I could do was cry;
Then Faith sang a song; Hope blazed and shone true,
and wiping my tears, I changed my point of view.

Picking myself up, I renewed my deep search,
for Love is abundant, when sought for in Church.
And then in pure joy, of the highest degree,
I found my true love and my Love found me!
