Christmas Traditions Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Christmas Traditions

December invites the festive holiday season
bringing with it an anticipation that glows
The excitement seems to grow spontaneously
dominating my emotions even as I doze

As the hours progress… days shorten
Thoughts focus on decorating with lights
In a prominent place the tree is decorated
Each adornment stirs memories that unite

Simultaneously the past and present
combine consecutively… igniting a smile
as well as tears of sadness that transfix...
A stare renders me motionless for awhile

Years suddenly eclipse with a wakeful blink
Plans of preparation are jotted on a list
Gifts and food must be carefully considered
Tradition and the magic of the holiday coexist
