Civilian No More, Soldier Not Yet Poem by Connie Tallada

Civilian No More, Soldier Not Yet

Yesterday....
I was lying in my bed with my furry little scruffy
Right beside me was my mom watching over me.
Years back then I was just a little baby
Who giggles a lot and cries when mom is away.
My happiness depends on chocolates and candies
Heaven to me was spending time with my playmates.

Today...
I'm lying in my bed with thoughts in my head
Worrying about the things this life me lead.
I wake up everyday struggling life fearlessly
I'm living my dreams, turning it to reality.
As i savor the last taste of civilian sovereignty
I blisfully welcome the life for the service of many.

Tomorrow...
I'll wake up at my bed no more
I'll be living in places far ashore.
Far from home, far from the place I used to be.
From from friends, far from my family.
Home to me will be the ladies quarters
My family will be my co-soldiers.
