Commercialism Poem by Joseph Anthony Montefusco

Commercialism

What was once known as democracy
Has now become hypocrisy
Because America’s not what it should be:
Land of the Brave; Home of the Free
And I won’t let corporations make a slave of me

Lose weight! Eat This! Shop Here! : For she
Get buff! Smell good! Have sex! : For he
All this sounds good but we must pay a fee
And the cost is our souls sucked in through TV
Because our minds are controlled by what we see

But I won’t let corporations make a slave of me
Turn the box of and read: That’s the key
If you really wanna let go and be free.
