Controlled And Ignored. Poem by Nichole Herrin

Controlled And Ignored.

Ignored
Everybody around me,
Doesn’t hear me.
They say, “Oh I know what your going through.”
They don’t. They just say that because it’s the
‘polite’ thing to do. I don’t want their sympathy.
I just want them to say what they really want to.
They don’t know what it’s like to be in my shoes,
But they think they do. They will never know
Because they aren’t me.
They think that it isn’t right because
It’s not their opinon.
I try to explain myself,
But I’m cut off by them.
We aren’t allowed to express ourselves.
When we do, we’re just shut up.
Think about all the famous people
In history that had amazing ideas, were amazing people,
They were either not accepted or killed. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks for instance.
They were listened to by those who cared enough, ignored or hated by those who
Didn’t seem to like their ideas.
We shall always be ignored and controlled.
