Countries And Regimes Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Countries And Regimes

In country A the democrats
Are getting out of hand.
In country B they are butchering plutocrats.
In country C they are staging a coup d'etat;
In country D they are restoring the monarchy,
But don't agree on the dynastic heir.
In country E they are trying a Welfare State;
And country F is going to the dogs.
The anarchists are having fun,
Rebellion is always justified
When rebels choose what rules they will obey.
In all countries the wise are going quietly desperate.

The square is a cage with two big exits:
Up and down.

Yesterday I had plans to be truly great,
But today I am in the dumps again.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
As a beginner in diplomacy, I keenly observed regimes, power struggles, quest for peace and welfare; also rivalry among countries.

A thought provoking write. Unfortunately you don't subsantiate any of it. Rebellion is very often justified ie; ...an organised protest by the oppressed. Examples are The Peasant Revolt in England, in the fourteenth century. The slave rebellions in North America In the 17,18 and 19 centuries. Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King were one time rebels, Their crime was wanting to see fairer more just society.

Unfortunately rebellion is always justified under one excuse or the other. When rebels choose the order of the times, the intelligent, thinking people have no voice and are sadly relegated to the back seats or they prudently keep silence! So the zeal and resolves of the diplomatic agents keep fluctuating! Great write!
