Covered In America Poem by Adam Holmes

Covered In America

The government is the root of our evils
But they do just what we want
We don’t want the truth
We want answers
And the politicians give them…

The immigrants are taking our jobs
Or so the out of work people say
They refuse to fold sheets and mow lawns
But they don’t want Mexicans doing it either
It’s just an excuse for their laziness
For their failure

Drugs fill our streets
They are an American’s ultimate fear
Its comical, the money we waste
Trying to take them off our streets
But supply without demand
Is of little good to anyone

Our kids are growing up dumb
While we stand round scratching heads
More money invested in education makes sense
But god forbid we let drugs and foreigners in

All this bullshit flies at us from every angle
Until we are covered
Until we forget where we are going and what we were doing
Until we believe it looks good on us
It fits to us like a finely tailored suit

Occasionally..
We grow tired of it
We proceed to hose ourselves of it
…But once we are clean
We feel naked
We feel disoriented
We feel alone
Then….
We turn on our Televisions
Open the newspaper
Get to work early to catch the coffee room gossip
And we find comfort
In form of answers chasing unicorns

Heading to Utopia

You convey the mood of disoreintation showed by the contradictions all laid out and that ending line...Wow.
