Crosshairs Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

Crosshairs

I started drinking to remember
then I drank to forget
things I wish I had done
some things I regret

life don't always go
just the way you want
sometimes the fight
is more than you brought

waking from a dream
reminds me where I've been
looking down that road
don't know where Im going yet

Gonna die of natural causes
No reason to fear
Cheese burgers and whiskey
And real ice cold beer

I never hit no one
that didn't hit me first
I sure hope that man
finally got up out of the dirt

7am
they're all sleeping
they didn't wake
hearing my weeping

I came
from the Land of Cotton
after all we smoked
it should all be forgotten

sitting at the crossroads
where no man should be
I am the reason Im here
it's all because of me

a few bad calls
and this is where they lead
to the crossroads and crosshairs
on this lucky SOB

just a lucky SOB
or am I the man
the things I've done
got me where I am
