Cruelty Poem by Bireswar Halder

Cruelty

Perplexed with fear of death
Pale faces shiver and
Await their turns
No way to escape
From the chopping butchers
They are all near a dawning death
Desperate to win back life
Rending air with blood screams
Beheaded body squirms in the pit
Then fall still and bloodless
Greedy people stare in glee
Chunks of body will fill stomach
And satisfy the taste-buds
Killing like ghouls those animals.
Before bidding farewell
One whispers to others -
"Do we have no liberty at all
Like human beings
To live in this democratic country?
No law against killing us
Nor punishment to cruel butchers? "
