Cupid's Battleground Poem by Daniel Mark Sims

Cupid's Battleground

Rating: 5.0

The man whose crazy about the girl whose mad for life.
Quietly hoping. Her masked protector in every strife.
He smiles and nods and helps her smile and all along
A frown was worn. Oblivious. Oblivious to the chance
Of living life like was never known: without regretting
The leap of faith. He bows his head. Trying to move on,
Loving other women rendered futile, his heart was foregone.

Sleepless nights. The heart and brain at war as to what to do,
One says persist and the other resist. Who to listen to?
The inner conflict numbs for a while as he gets a minute
With that smile and those eyes, a look so deep it reaches
Into you and squeezes your heart it beats twice as fast.
But when she turns to go, the beating heart drops a mile,
And as she turns back to say goodbye, he keeps his smile.

Promises so full they verge on empty. He battles to find
Whether she will or can't say won't before his mind
Is lost to her smile forever. His gut instinct telling
Him he knows her. Trusts her. And will wait for her.
Yet all logic points to stalling for time, waiting for her
Crush to cease. His biggest problem is he couldn't see;
As two individuals, it is her and him, never the desired we.

A winding road with crumbling cliffs as he climbs the hill.
Seclusion to make his final challenge on the mountain of will.
The man whose crazy about the girl whose mad for life.
Recognising wasted time and a chance to fix the wounds,
He closes his eyes and thinks of the smile that elates.
With the find so strong in mind, the final assault begins.
Only words and time will tell which faction wins.
