Cutting Up Your Precious Petrol Supply Poem by Ivy Christou

Cutting Up Your Precious Petrol Supply

Rating: 4.9

I wish I could remove the skin from your skull
And reveal all your bitterness to
all those blind people around you.
You are not interested in any of us.
Antennas extend from your brain
And peak signals from our miserable lives
Just to boost your self-esteem and curiosity.
You try to offer some compassion
But deep inside a thousand microchips
Transform your hidden smile to sparks
And feed your mechanistic heart with
Joy that you are popular and loved.
Behind our backs you don’t hold a dagger
But you surround us with your
Fake friendship’s wires and drown us,
Slowly at the beginning but forcibly as we resist,
Until we can no longer breathe.

I have two choices..
Attempt to vanquish you with acidic truths
And step back to observe your explosive decay
Or just sit back and with a smirk on my face
Watch you lose your followers,
One
By
One.

You can not deceive them forever.

The title says much. A poem which connected very strongly with me. The metaphor is very original. A prophetic piece, and you do well to wait. I admire this very much.

I liked your really powerful tone in this poem. It is very definite and certain. I agree with Andrew that the 'One/ by/ one' worked very effectively and the ending, well, spot on. Perfectly said. The deception will come to an end. I see a great development in your work Ivy. Can't wait to read more, as usual! All the best, your friend, Seán
