Daddy Said Poem by Malory Joyce

Daddy Said

Daddy said,

He would tell me he loves me,
and he'd say many other things too.
That if I were to believe,
trust will only fall and descend.
When I gave out my heart
I wouldn't receive it back again.

Daddy said,

They would tell me they're here for me,
and they'd go many other places too.
That if I wanted to see,
their hands will cover my eyes.
When they were tired of truth,
I wouldn't hear anything but the lies.

Daddy said,

They would do that to me,
and they will do many other things too.
That if I let them be,
one by one my strings will be pulled.
When they could make music,
I wouldn't hear the end of being fooled.

Daddy said,

He is the only man for me,
and there will be other ones too.
That if I wanted to breathe,
he'd do his best to supply air.
When I let myself accept,
I wouldn't cry over the world being unfair.
