Danita Marsh (Nashville, Tn. Police Officer) Poem by Luke Easter

Danita Marsh (Nashville, Tn. Police Officer)

October 27,2006 another duty filled day for this female to perform,
A Nashville, Tennessee Police Officer, Danita Marsh in her uniform,
Ambushed? In her patrol car on an American city street and not Iraq,
Trying to keep residents safe at the same time taking the streets back.

That fateful autumn day permanently changed a lot of innocent lives,
For her, paralyzed from the waist down amid domestic violence cries,
Severely wounded by Willie Lindsey in a cowardly and callous attack,
Wearing the “Blue” of help & safety it’s the kind of danger they attract.

She neither ran nor took the long way answering this or any other call,
As a convicted murderer no less was the assailant responsible for it all,
Wait a minute did I read that right, convicted, what the heck is going on?
@ Vanderbilt University Medical Center rehab is painful, slow and long.

This felon opened the door of the cruiser pistol whipping her in the head,
Shooting his estranged girlfriend and beating her, he wanted them dead,
Official department vehicle & employee meant total disregard of the law,
What would you expect considering the vicious nature of the original call?

30 years old, three year department veteran, mother of a 9 year-old son,
This woman’s work on & off the job, there was a lot that had to be done,
But let it be accomplished on her own two feet not sitting in a wheelchair,
“Extreme Makeover” said no but “100 Club of Nashville” said, “We care! ”

In Danita’s biggest disappointment tacked on to her greatest time of need,
Ronal Serpas & Club President Reed Trickett presented her with the deed,
Area businesses donated manpower & supplies to the construction process,
City residents stepped to the plate recognizing Officer Marsh gave her best.

OK, where is good old Willie boy? Ha! Exactly where he and his kind belong,
A question still remains, what happened, how’d he get out, what went wrong?
Being a cop in any city or town is already tough enough daily as we can see,
So, why make it more dangerous or life threatening by letting killers go free?
