  Dark Sky's Treat

The sky is so dark with looming clouds,
suspending its raindrops o’er our heads.
Counting until the time is just right,
to release them onto flowerbeds.

They patter against the window panes,
roofs and gardens, are each washed and clean,
Gleaming water sits on wood and stone,
giving to them all a satin sheen.

Thirsty ground laps up the welcomed wet,
glistening now with such fresh delight.
Slugs and snails softly creep out to see
their vast playground transformed overnight.

Deep rich colours now adorn the scene,
and dull grey dust is quickly swept away.
A sweet offering of pure clear air,
welcomes a shining new bright sunray.

We do so bemoan the pelting hail,
with a lashing force it drives along.
With showers that catch us unaware,
they can be doing nothing wrong.

The parched dry land will need all their care,
so that plants survive the summer heat.
We should be so glad that they are saved,
by looming clouds and dark sky’s treat.

I like how you've written a positive poem on the merits of rain. It's not the usual view taken in the UK! Well done.

Drawn in by the Title I was rewarded, a treat indeed. Dark clouds, the expectation of that first dropp of rain, then the fresh smell as all is washed clean - pulling on boots and getting out to be part of it is what I would like to do after reading this excellent write - Thank you, Cindy-

This poem is a treat to read and I can see how you love plants and nature so much. I felt I was really there with you because wonderful descriptive writing and the importance of rain is so rightly
featured. 10 love Karin

Wisdom raining down in the form of Ernestines words, , excellent

This verse stood out and touched my heart the most, , not sure why, , just so moving

Deep rich colours now adorn the scene,
and dull grey dust is quickly swept away.
A sweet offering of pure clear air,
welcomes a shining new bright sunray.

We sometimes complain about the rain, but as you say we need it, a lovely portrayal of a rainy day,
