Darkness (Negro) Evolves To Light (Nigga) Poem by Derrick Graham

Darkness (Negro) Evolves To Light (Nigga)

A young negro born
With an old negro soul
My heart is torn
As i strive in this hellhole
My history been destroyed
Lost my true name and where i come from
Dont know where to look
America written us off like a bad check, VOID! !
So i embrace the name formally known as death
Formally know as ignorant
I hit my books where i find knowledge become very intelligent
And goto college
And do it all in my ancesters name
No longer i wonder astray
Now i have a history to tell the world
How the darkness (negro) has evolved Into light (nigga)

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Its about 5: 30 am and i had a dream and it made me think about my past and history and how i dont know much about it not because of school but because i dont have grandparents to pass on that wisdom or knowledge to me you know the stuff you dont find in text books. As a man i want to be that light or atleast be apart of that light that formed from darkness with a new name and accomplish things people doubted you could do. No editing or revising done i left it how it was as it flowed from my heart and soul.
