Darwin’s Eve



a mere five million years
since
human
chimp
diverge

bearing off
to different places,
never knowing why

reuniting in
periodic copulation
lustful familiarity

then
out of Africa
a
genesis
embarks

hereditary
rift
expands
then
permanently
divides

consequence is eminent...

Fortuitous mutation
two hundred
thousand years
ago

anatomical modern man
begins
to nurse
from
the common
breast
of our
maternal
mother

we
Her
nascent paradigm

off she sends

to different lands

a change in colors
a change of speech

our ways too
soon contrast

disconnection
comes
with adaptation
to new
environments

territorial imperatives
drive the wedge
between
morphing
tribal
sibling
a family dichotomy

with
paradox

hubris
arrogance
agree

we
are better then
our brother
it is clear
to
see...
