Dawn at Callanais

I sat amid the sentry-like stones
Which stood reverently at attention

The midnight sky slowly began to fade away
Its darkness infused with the first hint of the coming sun

Ever so slowly the deep shades of night mingled
With shimmering tones of yellow and pink and orange
As the sun made its way up to the horizon

Rays gleamed brightly over the crest of the horizon
Slicing the ever-lightening sky with their brilliance

Little by little the orb rose into view
Its circle widening
Its pink cast becoming now ever more orange then yellow

Its warmth spreading over the dew-dampened earth where i sat

As it rose higher in the morning sky
The light began to cast shadows on the statuesque landscape before me

Backlit with the early sunshine
The silhouetted stones seemed to dance with joy in the glorious rays

I have never seen such beauty
I have never experienced such grace

I have never experienced dawn at callanais
Save through the love i shared with one who has

It is no less distant and no less real
Than had i sat on that cold ground myself and witnessed it firsthand

Though i never saw the beauty or felt the warmth
I have visited this place over and over in my heart and mind and soul
And it is no less a part of me
