Dawn Chorus Poem by Robin Pratt

Dawn Chorus

Sunday early
grey light eases its fingers past the blackouts
lets in the sound
of joy
birds sounding gleeful, glad to be alive
full of live
tweeting with energy.
Unusually this pushes my pleased button
must be spring!
In winter I would just growl and snarl
and re curl into my lair.
Arise
pull back the blinds
open the window wider
breath the dawn air
seems clean and nutritious.
Quick nosh
return to horizontal
but I stay aware
tuned into that shared delight.
A gift of precious dawn
making me the most alert I've been in months
yet calm and mellow
filled with JOY
