Dawns First Light Poem by Steve Gregory

Dawns First Light

Since dawns first light
The endless day, the long good night
The day that came
To bring what rites of passage life
Has yet to bear and
Dawn has risen over the city fair
And no one sees the year begin.

Yet now the world is seeking what it never lost
To find the truth that never was of
Lies and doubts and evolution
Yet man got lost in revolution.

How sought the world for endless night
In days that seemed to be so dark
And a year became a lifetime, and life
Became a day!

What thought the man as he sought the truth it seems
That all purpose to live is done for, and
Man seeks the answer for life’s ills in soft remembered dreams.

Then memory jolts
And words they bolt
From all the past days learnt
Those stories told from days of old
Are suddenly remembered like gold of a sunrise morning
And voices shout that there is doubt
The year cannot be
Yet all at once, for all to see
A light dawns upon the night
And day wipes night clean as a slate
For mankind has found his answer!

The truth they thought was lies indeed
For devil’s words were not believed
By the few that knew the Maker.
And as the word grew fast and firm
The year became less dark and the truth was clear!

And Maker’s smile grew wider than the sky
As children played in sand
And footprints followed by many a man
Now heard the truth played by the band
Of all who saw the day grow bright
And as the year passed by their eyes they
Heard the Maker’s call
“Come hither and see, my kingdom light
Brings New Year day and light so bright
That night is gone and words so right
Will enter man’s heart and set my world ablaze”
At Maker’s glorious re-creation
And angel revolution that ended
Demons rule of life and brought Saviours
Brand of life for all and sun burns bright
Upon the world and songs
Are sung in praise of God
Upon this New Year Day!

And since after dawns first light
Has shined upon the world once dead
The Saviour lifted arms in love
And gave his life to bring the world
To light that’s fresh and free from
Pollution of devils curse.
And Saviour and Maker stand and agree
That earth is redeemed and light is clear
To lead lost man to heavens cheer
And man can stand before the throne
Upon this New Year Day!
