Daytime Nightmares Poem by Sarah Child

Daytime Nightmares

I lay awake in my bed-
awaiting the eventide.
The only light in my windowless room-
comes through the gap at the bottom of the door.
My heart beats slowly-
almost as if it isn’t beating at all.
No breath comes to my lungs-
my chest lies perfectly still.
Solitude is my ally-
the moon my companion.
I live on the essence of others-
forever fated to walk the night.
