De Profundis Poem by Stefanus Vivier

De Profundis

(Under siege)

The depths of despair
like deep water flow
crystal clear and captured
in the solemn sound of violins.

Transformed into a crystal cry
capturing the quest for freedom
drifting between shadow and light
and empty words and callous deeds.

Driving young men into the arms
of Charon with a handful of coins
where mortally wounded brothers
lean on bloody swords and scattered dreams.

Clenched in shaky hands
smelling of carbon and cordite
their souls sharpened by
the desire to be redeemed.

Liberated from fire by fire
they proudly show their wounds
proclaiming that to live for something to die for
means to die for something to live for.
