Deacon's Roast Poem by Luke Easter

Deacon's Roast

It’s a Deacon’s Roast on the 2009th 3rd of May,
A very special occasion for this worship Sunday,
At least 20 years of service on the Baptist clock,
Anderson, Anderson, Fuqua, Davis Sr. & Brock.

An honor commemorating their spirit filled job,
By Pastor Milton Oscar Bradford, AKA the MOB,
Some of these characters have more than enough time,
2,000 years earlier and they’d be convicted of a crime.

So, exactly what is the meaning of this kind of roast?
Commemorating dedicated service to the Lord of hosts,
Also, for today we will be looking on the lighter side,
All doors are locked there’s no place to run and hide.

If anyone is unhappy with the performance of my job,
Many ideas you will hear came from Reverend Bob,
I did seek perfection by practicing them over and over,
Oh yeah, a few of the burbs came from Stanley Stover.

Someone said if there’s any pressure I can understand,
That’s only good for roasting a turkey & baking a ham,
Of course, spouses, relatives, associates helped out too,
Sit back, relax as we present the best of the best for you.

The 4 Tops sang, “If I don’t click my glass & say a toast, ”
1st & foremost it’s an honorary tribute and not just a roast,
In order that we may keep everything moving right along,
Please keep your accolades no more than 3 minutes long.

Only on Sesame Street, more sincere faces have I seen,
Than Cleveland, Robert, James, Howard Sr, and Gene,
A Good Hope blessing to all Deacons, families, friends,
And those who’ve paid their dues let the festivities begin.
