Dead Kois In A Pond Poem by gershon hepner

Dead Kois In A Pond

Our two koi died today. The man who cleaned
the pond forgot to put them back. Fish out
of water do not like when they’re weaned,
like us when forced to suffer in a drought,
not necessarily from water but
from love, which is as necessary for
survival as to koi is water. Glut,
in fact, is fine, so always ask for more.

A pond man who claims that he has been cleaning ponds for ten years today killed our two oldest koi which we have been proudly looking after for ten years. Linda told him that he was putting them into insufficient water, but he did not listen to her and now both koi are dead.
