Dear John Letter Poem by Juan Olivarez

Dear John Letter

'Dear John' it says, ' I must depart.
I just can't live like this.
I just won't listen to my heart,
It's just the money that I miss.

It's great that you're a poet,
And you write very well.
But I need money and you know it,
I know that you can tell.

The starving poet is a gig,
I don't find very groovy.
And it's just something I don't dig,
I need money don't you see.

So if you must suffer for your art,
You'll do it without me.
I hope this doesn't break your heart,
But I need to be free.

So goodbye John, it has been fun,
Up to a point that is.
I could debate if you're the one,
But it's the money that I miss.'

I like this one- its honestly painful but a joy to read. You put in the humor so well in verse for an otherwise heartbreaking theme. Wonderful and so excellent!
