Death Is Indiscriminate

Rating: 5.0

Death never favours
Death does not discriminate between
Saints and sinners
Losers and winners
Princes and paupers
followers or leaders
Dependents or
breadwinners
The fatter or thinner
Those who over ate of life's banquet
and those who austerely skipped its dinner.
Or the healed and the healers
the kinder or the meaner
The angels of death almost acting
as finders keepers
Today to lie in shrouds and coffins
yesterday's pall bearers
But many sigh with relief
when it kills the killers
It's upto us to part from the world
as loved good doers
Ah death may just knock
at anybody's lock.
Death is indiscriminate
yet curse it not
for it's a mere transition
to another new more perfect world
We didn't enjoy
coming into this world either
judging from all that bawling we did as newborns

When we're born we cry
but our folks happily rejoice
but we don't when we die
when our folks weep in mourning voice.

When we're born we cry but our folks happily rejoice but we don't when we die when our folks weep in mourning voice. - - -Realy it is true. It is a natural truth and also we have to take rebirth as per our action(karma) . Very nicely envisioned. Many thanks dear kamoonpuri.

The depth of life and its transition you captured so well in this poem. We do not know how long we are here and with whom we will take that journey.

Death is a great equalizer. But whereas it is a friend, we shudder the day it comes calling. Friend, because it gives us new life. The last stanza makes a good point on the contradiction on man's reaction to death and life.

Just remembering a couplet of Kabir. Death is not the death of soul but entering into another world. Can't predict the future whether it'd happen or not. But death is certain. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing poem, realizing the death which is inevitable in our life irrespective of any social, economic, or geographic condition in our life. We all have to surrender to death only in the same fashion leaving everything. Very nice feeling being expressed in this poem.

Death will find us all in the end, your as much a philosopher of life as you are a poet, rich man poor man, all of us are equal in the face of the earth. Your last lines are my favourite. Tears we fill with life will be transmuted away, and we will cease to be, you make death seem less frightening then what it can be, and this work suggests we all end up in the same place in the end. Wonderful stuff, it not melancholic, its liberating, thank you
