Death Works Slow Poem by Daniel Nairn

Death Works Slow

Rating: 5.0

Death works slow on the wisest ones
Who undeserving bear
His practiced torments slowly tear
Life, health, pride.

One blow, would dissipate the pain
But He is not so sweet,
Rend flesh from soul, piece by piece:
Magnify the shame.

In my experience, death has come swiftly, mercifully (tho' agonizing to those left behind, no chance for goodbyes) . I dread witnessing this kind of parting. Hard enough to watch, no doubt, I cannot imagine bearing it in body and soul... Daniel, well-poemed indeed.
