Deathbed Poem by Cory Calder

Deathbed

As I lie here dying,
I feel like a dope.
I can feel my heart crying.
I’ve lost all hope,
For love and life.
I cannot cope,
I’ve quit the strife.

A lonely disgrace,
With a lonely fate.
Slowly fading is this place,
Not much longer at this rate.
In a quiet, empty room,
Questioning the hate.
Drowning in gloom.

Death stands poised ready,
With his scythe overhead.
My body grows unsteady,
As I lie here on my deathbed.

Slow-motion, it seems,
As his scythe falls.
The blade gleams,
While my grave calls.

Finally the blade lands,
My flesh is being cut.
My soul, clutched, in deaths hands.
I fear the worst but,

I’m drifting into heavens light.
A relieved and worried sigh,
Heaven is a beautiful sight.
Is this a lie?

I pinch me,
I feel the pinch.
Every where my eyes can see,
Gold, at every inch.

My lonely life has a new lease,
But this loneliness is forever.
Despite my pleas,
Regardless of any endeavor
I am lonelier than the seas,
Now and forever.
