I think the poem means that it is wise to watch out for yourself but you can't and shouldn't be afraid to go after whatever it is that you want.

This poem is about how a person should be cautious, but should always act when they get the chance. A person needs to understand that they have the ability to do something, but until they understand that they won't be able to accomplish anything.

you have to be careful in everything you do, but you cant be too careful. Once you have found a way to succeed then keep doing it, because you will always succeed.
