December 7th 2012 Poem by Augustine Yirideme

December 7th 2012

We've come a long way
And shouldn't our gains betray
The price we're prepared to pay
The peace we'll make stay

Before dawn we're already queuing
At 7am we'll be seen voting
Come midday Allah will hear some praying
At 5 pm starts the vote counting

Anxiety will be intense and widespread
But that should pose no threat
The path of peace cautiously we'll tread
In order not to jeopardize our own daily bread

ECG! ECG! ECG! How many times did I call your name?
VRA and GRIDCO, you guys seem to be all the same
Tell Nana it's not going to be your usual game
Mahama says, ‘please put me not to shame'

On one radio I hear the voice of a journalist
On another it is that of an analyst
TV stations constantly showing the finalists
But Dr. Gyan is the chief linguist
