Defining Beauty Poem by gershon hepner

Defining Beauty

“Define just what you mean by beauty, lady, ” said
the interviewer, but she didn’t flash her tits
to give her answer, though if she’d given head
she would have conquered in the Kulturkampf of wits.

Inspired by reading an article on Voltaire by David Coward, Ermitus Professor of French at Leeds University. When I told Linda about this, she remembered her interview at that University where she wanted to study French. She told the interviewer that she particularly liked the poetry of Lamartine “because of its beauty”. “Define beauty! ” he exxclaimed. My poem describes two answers she might have given, but probably did not..
