Delirium's Ocean Poem by Joseph Anthony Montefusco

Delirium's Ocean

Where am I?
I see the waves surround
True I might be flotsam
But nothing else is around

The waves crash
The waters splash
I see images from the past

Put aboard a cruise ship
Everything is quite serene
Turning to my right
I see an evil gleam

Quickly gasping for air
My mind returns to see
No land in sight
Barely existing among the sea

Was I jettisoned?
Thrown overboard as jetsam?
The memories are near
But I cannot catch them

The waves crash
The waters splash
I see images from the past

Now in a bedroom
With someone under the sheets
I pull back the covers
And with evil I meet

Taken aback in horror
From the face of the threat
The terror stares back
A glare I'll never forget

Coughing up water
I slowly drift back to life
Feeling an odd presence
Floating before me - A knife

I grab it with my left
As I think 'For protection'
Yet in holding it tighter
My mind makes a connection

The waves crash
The waters splash
I see images from the past

Again standing on the deck
Facing someone I cannot see
His face blackened in contrast
Of the reflection from the sea

I squint my eyes and turn
Seeing eighteen people dead
In looking back I realize
I'm staring at my own head

I snap back to the now
Insane by what I've done
So I scream at the heavens
While glaring towards the sun

I slowly lose my voice
As my soul goes numb
and quickly slit my wrist
Waiting for the hunters to come.
