Nicholas Nikolov (April.6,1988 / Toronto)
Departure Day
The eve of your last day
was despairingly not spent together -
and was of course - sorrow-filled.
Nightfall draped suddenly,
where not a single star glittered
neither did the usual radiance
of the moon did not shine;
they were well-hidden
within the ultimate darkness
that not only blanketed
the night sky, but also my heart.
I fully understand
that no longer would I hear
you sleep ever so gently
as you sail further
into your precious
and always interesting dreams,
your half-asleep half-awake
soft jumbled whispers,
your well-wishing
for pleasant dreams
and to for I to sleep soundly.
Regrettably, my darling,
for I'm not going to sleep
this time, on this night,
the nigh before the day
of your departure
as I'll not get any rest; but simply
gaze up into the starless,
moonless night sky
and remember all the moments
we shared. And finally,
imagining that you are nestled
cozily in my loving arms
for one last time.
