Depression Not Diesease Poem by Adele Bercich

Depression Not Diesease

I am depressed, I'm not diseased
You won't get sick by being with me.

Believe me, I don't want to feel this
It seems a fairytale; a life of happiness.

I know that being my friend is work
But every effort shows me worth.

I am a human, not a problem
Don't try to fix me, just pray and listen.

Ask a few questions, go ahead
The aim: for me to work out my head.

Listening shows me that you see value
Some day I'll recognise what you do.

Sometimes support means talking straight
Consider your words, they all have weight.

Please stick it out, I know it's hard
Your friendship brings out my good side.

With friends there's hope so I push through
Hoping, one day, to play the role of you.

If fear of depression got thrown out
Just imagine what could come about.

Love and support both freely given
Creating circles where wrongs are forgiven.

Healing growth and hope ensue
All this is possible - will it start with you?
