Design For Life Poem by Stuart Doggett

Design For Life

Rating: 4.8

Scoring blue lined paper
With lines that show ourselves,
Complete and published blueprints
Measured to fingernails.
It details where we came from,
It lays the path ahead,
The appearance of making choices
Hides the fact we’re being led.

Like following muddy footprints,
Chasing something that’s not there,
It’s directed evolution
Into a beast that fits the snare.
Proceed down the production line
To a predetermined plan,
Walking through life backwards,
Placing the footprints that guide your hands.

If this is the way the world works
We must live in someone’s mind
Who thinks up all our futures
And remembers what’s left behind.
He brings the wind in from the West,
He makes the stars come out and shine,
Am I living someone else’s dream
Or dreaming this life is mine?
