Dissociation Poem by Jonny Brackney

Dissociation

here is where
you meet the end
as glamorous
as i pretend.
a picture i've painted.
a mask i've created.
the newest
of all my
trends.
my heart in your hand,
a ridiculous sham.
i'll take you for everything.
your intimate kisses
for hollow wishes,
the empty feeling they bring.
i'm sure you'll find some way
to replace me
each day we speak
is a day you erase me.
so i'll end our time
with bitter lines,
pretentious rhymes, like sour limes
they will tingle
upon your tongue...
but don't you worry that pretty little head.
i adore this
hope-sucking
insect.
it gives me the power
to write and feel.
it's all for dramatic
effect.
