Distance Poem by Stephen Rule

Distance

The road may seem long and too far to walk,
There may even be things which hinder your advance.
You may even reach what's thought of as the end,
Only to find that the path goes ever on.
Your friends may leave and go on different paths,
And you may even think that they've left you all alone.
But through all the sadness you mustn't forget,
No matter what may happen you are never alone.
Although on different paths your friends may be,
All their hands reach out to you.
With each step forward your feet will take,
Your friends are with you each step of the way.
Please don't forget the ones you call 'friend',
For never had they forgotten about you.
Look to the North, South, the East and the West,
Your friends all give you their heart and strength.
If your path is slowed then do not fret,
Look to your heart for you are never alone.

The most important thing, also, is to make new friends, for the world is full of people. Don't be sad - be glad that you are alive and have the opportunity to reach out to others. I also have lost many friends and relatives, but when I count all the new friends and my little grandchildren - how can anyone be sad? Start today.
