Do We Even Bother? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Do We Even Bother?

If now to Christ we bend our knee
When Jesus’ blood we trust
Eternal life is ours for free
Whilst others turn to dust

But who this side of death and grave
This side of life’s divide
Will bother God their soul to save
By asking Christ inside

Instead to sin, we dance and sing
We choose Satanic ways
We see the devil as our king
And turn from God our gaze

Rejecting Christ, His Morning Dew
Rejecting Heaven’s Door
We drink with lust the devil’s brew
And live as Satan’s whore

Our nakedness we flaunt at will
Our shame stinks Heaven high
We seek from filth our cups to fill
And wonder why we die

But if we’d sit a moment still
If thoughts would turn inside
Our wayward self we’d seek to kill
We’d end our foolish pride

We’d seek to flee the coming wrath
Deny the devil’s charms
We’d turn from Satan’s evil path
And seek Salvation’s arms

We’d seek the truth in fervent prayer
We’d end our foolish game
We’d seek The Lord, His love to share
We’d seek in Jesus’ name
