Do You Think Of Me Still? Poem by DAVID TERRY

Do You Think Of Me Still?

Do you think of me still?
Do you spend all the time that I do?
Redoing the last time we talked, when we balked
At being friends, then at the end
Falling apart, in my broken heart
That I wouldn’t show you.
Did I know you?
And after all this time, and all these rhymes
Do you think of me like I do you?
Do you and how we two
Knew something true and how
Even now
I draw strength from all you taught
What love wrought
Your knowledge, your pain
Your teaching, our gain
The depths of what I felt when I dealt
With knowing I might never see you again
My friend
And more
So very much more.
And how it sometimes hurt to be yours but not as much
As not being yours.
Do you think of me still and in your will
Wish you could have just one more chance to live
with you and forgive you
As I did long ago, because it is so
That I never could not forgive where you were concerned
Because my heart burned inside for what felt so right.
Because I loved you.
Do you think of me still?
