Does Heaven Say? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Does Heaven Say?

Rating: 2.5

How sad but true, even today
Two thousand years or more
People are scaring sheep away
From church and Heaven’s door

Thinking they do The Father’s will
Believing they are right
Some point a finger that could kill
Or set a child to flight

Self-righteously they’ll taunt and scoff
Young lambs fresh off the street
To where a tare feels better off
Amongst God’s ripening wheat

Though Jesus tells us what to do
The Word of God speaks clear
“Let all who come amongst you
Have only God to fear”

We hear one cannot be divorced
One cannot smoke or drink
Subsequently each sinner’s forced!
To change the way they think

Yet God Himself gives us a choice
Shows grace and shares His love
That those who hearken to His voice
Obey and rise above

Is murder worse than stealing?
Does cheating beat a lie?
Is adultery less appealing?
Have smokers all to die?

Is this in tune with Heaven’s plan?
Is this our Father’s Way?
Should Jesus judge or fellow man?
What counts as sin today?
